Course Overview
If you’ve ever been called a “drama queen” (in the best way possible), DRAM 100 might just be your stage. This year-long course offers a creative and reflective break from more traditional lecture-based classes—but don’t be fooled: it’s also a serious introduction to theatre arts that demands both imagination and intellectual effort.
What You’ll Experience
Weekly lectures that blend art, life advice, and performance theory
Hands-on labs where you’ll write, rehearse, and experiment in small groups
A behind-the-scenes look at lighting, sound, costume, directing, and acting
Three staged showings of your collaborative work
Grading & Workload
Online module responses (3 × 120 words weekly)
Critical reviews (≈1000 words each) for 7+ plays
One 2500-word essay (Winter term)
Final exam
Additional play viewings and reading assignments
Is It Really a “Bird Course”?
While DRAM 100 encourages creativity and self-expression, it’s far from an easy A. You’ll be reading, writing, and analyzing throughout the year. Succeeding requires genuine engagement with theatrical texts, thoughtful critique, and consistent effort. That said, if you love storytelling, collaboration, and seeing your ideas come to life—this could be one of the most memorable classes you take at Queen’s.
